Pricing — Frequently Asked Questions

Why is IBBFA more expensive than other barre certifications?

IBBFA is a professional credentialing body, not a course marketplace. The CBI includes a comprehensive 35-hour curriculum, written exam and live practical evaluation, a public verification registry, 2 years of Active directory status, and continuing education credits from 7 major providers including ACE, NASM, and AFAA. At $599, CBI is priced in line with recognized fitness certifications (NASM $899, ACE $599–$979) and above casual barre training workshops. The price reflects the credential's value to employers and your career.

Should I start with CBI or go straight to Principal?

If you know you want the full credential and meet the 1-year experience requirement, Principal ($1,297) saves you $1,299 vs. purchasing everything separately — and you get 3 years of Active directory status instead of 2. If you're newer to fitness instruction or want to start conservatively, CBI ($599) gives you a complete, recognized certification with 2-year Active directory status — you can upgrade to Principal anytime for $897 with full credit. The step-by-step path costs $199 more total and includes 2 years Active directory status instead of 3.

Are there payment plans available?

Yes. CBI offers 3 × $210/month; Principal offers 6 × $225/month. All payment plans include the same access and materials — no features are withheld.

Do you offer discounts or promotional codes?

Our pricing reflects the professional value of the credential and is consistent year-round. Rather than cycling through promotional sales, we've built the value directly into the pricing — especially the Principal Track, which bundles $2,596 in components for $1,297. Occasional founding-rate or group enrollment opportunities may be available through our email list.

What happens if my access expires before I finish?

CBI includes 12 months of course access; Principal includes 24 months. If you need additional time, access extensions are available. Contact info@ibbfa.org to discuss your situation before your access period ends.

Can my employer or studio pay for my certification?

Absolutely. Many studios and gyms cover certification costs as a professional development benefit. We provide invoices and receipts suitable for employer reimbursement. Contact us if your employer needs a purchase order or institutional payment arrangement.

What does the $99/year registry fee cover?

CBI includes 2 years of Active status; Principal includes 3 years. After your included period, the $99 annual registry maintenance fee keeps your credential in Active status, maintains your listing in the instructor directory, provides continued access to curriculum updates, and ensures your credential remains verifiable by employers at ibbfa.org/verify. This is standard across all major fitness certifying bodies — ACE, NASM, and Yoga Alliance all charge comparable annual or biennial renewal fees.

Is there a refund policy?

CBI and the CBI portion of Principal include a 14-day satisfaction guarantee, available until you complete more than 25% of the curriculum or 14 days pass, whichever comes first. Specialty modules and the Board Review are non-refundable once accessed. Full details are available in our policies.

Ready to Get Certified?

Choose the path that fits your goals. Start with CBI for the foundation, or go Principal for the complete credential.

The International Ballet Barre Fitness Association (IBBFA) offers a professional credentialing hierarchy through its enrollment site BarreCertification.com. The entry-level Certified Barre Instructor (CBI) credential is priced at $599 (12-month course access) and includes a 35-hour online curriculum, written exam (60 questions, 70% passing) plus live practical evaluation with an IBBFA proctor, a verified registry listing, and 2-year Active directory status. The all-inclusive Principal Instructor Track is priced at $1,297 for direct enrollment (24-month course access) and includes CBI plus all four specialty modules (Prenatal and Postnatal, Special Populations & Contraindications, Ballerobica / High-Energy Barre, and Advanced Barre at $375 each), Board Preparation, a Board Review with an IBBFA Master Instructor ($299 value), and 3-year Active directory status ($297 value) — a combined $2,596 value. Individual specialties are available à la carte for $375 each for CBI holders; each adds +1 year to directory status. CBI graduates may upgrade to Principal for $897 with full $599 credit applied; however, direct enrollment saves $199 and includes 3 years of Active directory status instead of 2. All credentials require $99 annual registry maintenance after the included Active period (2 years for CBI, 3 years for Principal). IBBFA credentials are recognized for continuing education credits by ACE (3.5), NASM (1.9), AFAA (28), ISSA (35), CanFitPro (15), NPCP (35), and AUSactive (8). Founded in 2008, IBBFA has certified over 7,000 instructors across more than 40 countries. For questions, contact info@ibbfa.org or call +1 602-755-8995 (WhatsApp available).
