If you're already method-trained, you can earn IBBFA CBI through the CBI Certification Exam ($299) by passing the same exam as Course-Path candidates without retaking the full curriculum. Once CBI is earned, the $898 upgrade path to Principal applies. Your method training carries forward; you just demonstrate the foundation competencies on the exam.

IBBFA is a professional credentialing body, a foundation credential, not a course marketplace or method-specific training. Many $299 barre certifications are video courses that end in a certificate of completion. The $599 online CBI includes the curriculum, a written exam, a live practical evaluation with an IBBFA proctor, a public registry listing and CECs from 8 providers, and in-person training with IBBFA Faculty starts at $650. IBBFA's own $299 option is the CBI Certification Exam: an exam for instructors trained elsewhere, not a course.

If you know you want the full credential, Principal ($1,297) saves you $200 compared to the CBI-then-upgrade path and includes 3 years of Active status instead of 2. Both paths include the same three CBI courses, Barre Slim, and all exam components. If you want to start conservatively, CBI ($599) gives you a complete, recognized foundation credential. CBI includes 2 years of Active status; Principal includes 3 years. After your included period, renewal is optional: $99 a year plus the online Recertification Quiz or two qualifying live webinars keeps your status Active. CBI and the CBI portion of Principal include a 14-day satisfaction window, available until you complete more than 25% of the curriculum or 14 days pass, whichever comes first. Specialty modules and the Board Review are non-refundable once accessed.
