Upgrade to Principal — $897 →Going straight to Principal saves you $199 ($1,297 direct vs. $1,496 via CBI + upgrade) and includes 3 years of Active directory status instead of 2 — a combined $298 benefit for choosing Principal from the start.
More Curriculum Depth Per Dollar
IBBFA credentials are professional investments — here's how the numbers compare.
IBBFA's 35-hour curriculum is the most comprehensive barre-specific training available at this price point — comparable to what specialist Pilates and yoga certifications charge for similar depth, at a fraction of the cost.
The Principal Track delivers comprehensive, board-certified instructor training with a rigorous two-part examination, specialty depth across four domains, and a public verification registry — the hallmarks of a serious professional credential, priced for working fitness professionals.

Pricing Questions
Everything you need to know before enrolling.
Why is IBBFA more expensive than other barre certifications?
IBBFA is a professional credentialing body, not a course marketplace. The CBI includes a comprehensive 35-hour curriculum, written exam and live practical evaluation, a public verification registry, 2 years of Active directory status, and continuing education credits from 7 major providers including ACE, NASM, and AFAA. At $599, CBI is priced in line with recognized fitness certifications (NASM $899, ACE $599–$979) and above casual barre training workshops.
Should I start with CBI or go straight to Principal?
If you know you want the full credential, Principal ($1,297) saves you $1,299 vs. purchasing everything separately and includes 3 years of Active directory status. If you want to start conservatively, CBI ($599) gives you a complete, recognized certification with 2-year Active directory status — you can upgrade to Principal anytime for $897. The step-by-step path costs $199 more total and includes 2 years of Active directory status instead of 3.
Does Principal certification include any studio benefits?
Yes — and it's one of the most overlooked benefits of the credential. Active Principal Instructors automatically qualify their studio for IBBFA Approved Studio designation, a $199/year value included free and portable with your credential. That means wherever you teach, your studio earns the designation. Studios with a Master Instructor on staff — or where all barre instructors hold active IBBFA credentials — qualify for the higher IBBFA Certified Studio designation ($299/year value, also free). Both designations include a listing in the IBBFA studio directory and official marketing badges. The designation is earned through your credential, never purchased separately. Are there payment plans available?
Yes. Both programs offer flexible payment options so you can start immediately and pay over time. CBI is available as a single payment of $599 or 3 monthly payments of $225. The Principal Instructor Track is available as a single payment of $1,297 or 4 monthly payments of $349. Your course access begins the moment you enroll regardless of which payment option you choose, and all features are identical between payment and single-pay enrollments.
Do you offer discounts or promotional codes?
Our pricing reflects the professional value of the credential and is consistent year-round. The Principal Track bundles $2,596 in components for $1,297 — a 50% saving built directly into the price. Occasional founding-rate or group enrollment opportunities may be available through our email list.
What happens if my course access expires before I finish?
CBI includes 12 months of course access; Principal includes 24 months. If you need additional time, access extensions are available. Contact info@ibbfa.org before your access period ends to discuss your options.
Can my employer or studio pay for my IBBFA certification?
Absolutely. Many studios and gyms cover certification costs as a professional development benefit. IBBFA provides invoices and receipts suitable for employer reimbursement. Contact us if your employer needs a purchase order or institutional payment arrangement.
What does the $99/year registry maintenance fee cover?
CBI includes 2 years of Active status; Principal includes 3 years. After your included period, the $99 annual registry maintenance fee keeps your credential in Active status, maintains your listing in the instructor directory, provides continued access to curriculum updates, and ensures your credential remains verifiable by employers at ibbfa.org/verify. This is standard across all major fitness certifying bodies — ACE, NASM, and Yoga Alliance all charge comparable renewal fees.
Is there a refund policy?
CBI and the CBI portion of Principal include a 14-day satisfaction guarantee, available until you complete more than 25% of the curriculum or 14 days pass, whichever comes first. Specialty modules and the Board Review are non-refundable once accessed.
